The Oklahoma Sooners are making moves in the 2023 class. They recently got their third player in the class in quarterback Jackson Arnold and continued adding to the class on Saturday with a commitment from 2023 athlete out of McAlester, OK, Erik McCarty.
McCarty plays running back at high school, but given his athletic ability the Sooners could look to try him out on defense as well. It’s no coincidence that safeties coach Brandon Hall was tagged in his commitment post he shared on his Twitter account. McCarty is the first Oklahoma recruit to commit to the Sooners in the 2023 recruiting cycle, but certainly won’t be the last.
Now with four players committed and McCarty being the first that could be considered on defense, there’s a chance he could be a safety or linebacker in the 2023 recruiting class.
McCarty stands at 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds and holds offers from Baylor, Kansas State, and Nebraska. He isn’t currently rated on the major recruiting sites, but that’ll change during his senior season in 2022. It’s early in the process for him, but it’s clear how the Oklahoma Sooners feel about him regardless of where he plays. Look for him to make an impact for Oklahoma down the road.
