When does Penn State begin spring football practices?

Spring football practices are just around the corner in Happy Valley. In fact, the spring practice schedule kicks off in just a matter of weeks as James Franklin and Penn State look to get things back on track in 2022. After floating at .500 over the past two seasons, it will soon be time to get back to work to building Penn State back into a program that was expected to play in a New Years Six bowl game with some regularity.

For Penn State, the work is always underway with offseason workouts being conducted already this winter. But the start of spring football practices is when things begin to really pick up steam. And the Nittany Lions will officially kick off their spring football practice schedule on Monday, March 21.

The NCAA allows for 15 on-field practices over a span of 34 days, with a limit of 20 hours of activity. A total of 12 of the 15 practices may contain contact, but only eight of those may contain what is considered full contact. The exact schedule of practices is not yet confirmed other than Franklin confirming the start date and Penn State confirming details for the spring game.

Penn State, as well as most programs, will utilize its 15th practice for the annual spring game, scrimmage, or live practice. The exact setup of the Blue-White Game is subject to change and may be influenced by the health and availability of players at that time due to injury concerns or, if necessary, COVID-related issues.

Penn State’s annual Blue-White Game is locked in for a 2:00 p.m. start on Saturday, April 23. The spring scrimmage will also be airing on Big Ten Network with live coverage.
